NAACP Invites Fort Walton Beach Residents to a Public Workshop on a Proposed Plan to Establish Districts in the City
Fort Walton Beach, FL — The Okaloosa County Branch, NAACP invites Fort Walton Beach residents to a public workshop on a proposed plan to establish districts within the city. The workshop is on Monday, March 9, 2026, at 5:30 PM at the City Hall Annex/Growth Management Office, 105 Miracle Strip Parkway SE.
The objective of this workshop is to provide information to the community and solicit resident feedback regarding the proposed redistricting plan. The plan would establish four single-member council seats, three at-large council seats, and a mayor elected at-large. This system aims to enhance local representation, promote equitable access to elected leadership, and ensure that the diverse perspectives of Fort Walton Beach residents are reflected.
“Community participation is vital,” stated Sabu Williams, President of the Okaloosa County NAACP. “Redistricting determines the representation of each neighborhood. This workshop provides residents with the opportunity to review the proposed plan, ask informed questions, provide constructive feedback, and express their perspectives prior to the proposal’s finalization and submission to the city council in April. All residents, community organizations, neighborhood leaders, and stakeholders are invited to participate in this important civic process.”
