NAACP Announces 2026 Legacy Walk of Fame Inductees
Fort Walton Beach, FL — The NAACP, Okaloosa County Branch, is proud to announce the 2026 Legacy Walk of Fame Inductees—community trailblazers whose leadership, service, and achievements have helped shape the legacy of Okaloosa County and its municipalities.
The 2026 inductees will be officially recognized during the opening ceremony of the Fort Walton Beach May Day Festival on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. The festival will be held at Chester Pruitt Park, 15 Carson Dr., Fort Walton Beach, FL.
This year’s Legacy Walk of Fame honorees represent a range of contributions—from early pioneers and educators to faith leaders, civil rights advocates, and civic organizations. The 2026 inductees are:
- Augustus “Gus” Tart — Early County Pioneer
- Charles Morgan Jr., PA — Civil Rights Attorney
- Dr. Vivian Green — Educator/Community Servant
- Mrs. Parrie Lee Alford-Johnson — Life-Long Community Servant
- Rev. Cecil Williams — Pastor/Civic Leader
- Mr. Houston McTear — Athletic Trailblazer
- Joppa Lodge #7 P.H.A. — Civic Organization
- Dr. Karyn M. Combs — Educator/Civil Rights Advocate
- Mrs. Naomi Hardison — Civil Rights/Youth Leader
- Mrs. Bazine McDonald — Lifelong Community Servant
“The Legacy Walk of Fame is about ensuring African Americans—and others—who helped build this community are remembered, celebrated, and recognized for their contributions, particularly their advocacy for our civil rights,” said Sabu Williams, President, NAACP, Okaloosa County Branch. “We invite everyone to join us at the May Day Festival opening ceremony as we recognize the 2026 inductees and celebrate the legacy they leave for future generations.” Community members, supporters, and media are encouraged to attend the ceremony and festival activities. Additional details about the NAACP Legacy Walk of Fame and future commemorations will be shared by the NAACP as they become available.
The NAACP, Okaloosa County Branch is part of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the nation’s oldest and largest civil rights organization, founded in 1909.
