Family Seeks Answers Regarding Death of L’Twan Mitchell 

Okaloosa County, FL – A press conference is scheduled for Monday, March 30, 2026, at  11:00 AM to address the passing of L’ Twan C. Mitchell, who was found unresponsive at  Okaloosa Correctional Institute on January 19, 2026. The conference will take place at  Greater Peace Missionary Baptist Church, 101 First Street SE, Fort Walton Beach, FL. 

Sabu Williams, President of the NAACP, Okaloosa County Branch, stated, “Community  advocates, including the NAACP, will be in attendance in support of the family’s request. At this  time, no conclusions or allegations have been made. The purpose of the press conference is to  address the family’s concerns, provide available information, reinforce the importance of  transparency, and seek due process while awaiting additional documentation, including the  pending autopsy report.” 

Williams further noted, “Mr. Mitchell’s family has voiced significant concerns and continues to  seek clarification regarding the circumstances surrounding his death. They have requested public  attention as they pursue answers and information through appropriate channels.”
