NAACP to Hold Public Workshop – 9 March 2026

When

March 9, 2026
5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
The NAACP, Okaloosa County Branch, will hold a public workshop on a proposal to convert four “at-large” city council seats to district-based seats.

The Branch all invites Fort Walton Beach residents to attend the public workshop to review a proposed Representative Governance Model that would combine four district-based city council seats and three at-large council seats, plus an at-large mayor, while maintaining a professional council–manager structure.

Currently, all seven city council seats and the mayor are elected “at large,” meaning they don’t represent a specific location or neighborhood within the city. The proposal is intended to strengthen neighborhood representation, promote equitable access to civic leadership, and preserve citywide accountability.

The workshop will include a formal presentation of the proposal, followed by an opportunity for public comment and discussion. The workshop will be held at 5:30 p.m. on March 9, 2026, at the Fort Walton Beach City Hall Annex/Growth Management Offices, located at 105 Miracle Strip Parkway SE in the City Hall complex.
All FWB residents are encouraged to attend and participate.
